According to Motorola’s COO Rick Osterloh, next year’s line of Motorola devices might not have the Motorola name anywhere on them. Rather these devices would fall under the Lenovo brand name. Osterloh confirmed this to CNET in an interview from the show floor of CES 2016.
Lenovo will most likely continue to use the “Moto” branding on the entire product lineup such as the Moto X, Moto G, and Moto 360, but the Motorola name will not be used at all in association with those products. CNET further reports that those devices will retain the Motorola logo in addition to a blue Lenovo logo.
This change will truly mark the end of an era for the entire smartphone market, but after news that Lenovo had purchased the company earlier this year, we all had a feeling it might take this route. The change will take place over time and there’s no details on what device will be the first to see the change, but we should start seeing it sometime in 2016.
