According to a new report out of the Wall Street Journal this morning, Spotify is planning to launch their long-awaited Spotify Video service this week. This service was announced back in May of last year, but since then we haven’t heard much about it.
WSJ is claiming that Spotify will launch the service starting on Android this week with iOS and other platforms gaining access shortly afterward.
Spotify Video is designed to offer short clips from sources like the BBC, ESPN, Comedy Central, MTV, and more. Since Spotify is a music-centric brand, it’s likely that videos would be focused around music and music news.
Spotify Video isn’t going to be a competitor to Google’s YouTube, but rather its goal is provide users with more content to play with which they hope will turn you into a paying subscriber, if you aren’t already.
