This Smartphone From India Costs Just $4: Four. Dollars.
We’ve been seeing some amazing things over the past couple years worth of budget smartphone, however India’s Ringing Bells is breaking new ground in the price war with their new $4 Android smartphone. The Freedom 251 costs just Rs. 251 (heh, see what they did there?) which translates to about $3.67 here in the US. Regardless, it’s pretty darn impressive just how cheap this phone is.
Spec wise the device doesn’t have anything all that impressive, until you consider the price point. The full spec list is below:
- 4-inch qHD (960 x 540) Display
- 1.3 GHz Quad-Core Processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 8GB Storage (with microSD)
- 3G Connectivity
- 3.2MP Rear Camera/0.3MP Front Camera
- 1,450 mAh Battery
The Freemdom 251 even runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box!
By now I’m sure you’re wondering how in the world this phone is so cheap. While it isn’t confirmed, it’s very likely that the Indian government is helping to subsidize the cost of this device as the device is being offered along with support from the government.
Official pre-orders kick off tomorrow through Ringing Bells’ official website linked below.
