Both of these devices feature the same glass back from the Galaxy S6, but this time around it’s curved on the sides and the top and bottom. As seen above the specs inside are identical, with the main differences coming in screen and battery size.

The standard Galaxy S7 addresses battery life concerns from last year with a larger 3,000 mAh cell this time around. The larger S7 Edge on the other hand features a larger 5.5″ display and with that a massive 3,600 mAh battery, something we can’t wait to test out for ourselves. That’s the same capacity found on the Galaxy S6 Active, which had incredible battery life. Of course it also includes the dual-curved edges on the screen which the standard S7 lacks.

Both devices also feature water resistance, a feature that skipped last year’s Galaxy S6 after appearing on the previous Galaxy S5.

One downside is the lack of the new USB C standard, Samsung rather opting for the tried and true microUSB port.

The 12MP camera on the back might look like a downgrade on paper from the 16MP sensor on the S6, but in fact it is a big improvement. With an improved f/1.7 aperture, this camera should be able to easily pick up more light in a dark situation. However unlike some other cameras with that ability, this one doesn’t sacrifice OIS.

Out of the box the Galaxy S7 family features Android Marshmallow with a further refined skin that also features a simpler color palette. In classic Samsung fashion of course, the S7 won’t be lacking features. Most features from the S6 come back, but with an added “gaming mode” and also an always-on display that delivers the time and notifications all the time. The larger S7 Edge also includes the new improved “edge UX” will come out of the box on that device.

Samsung has yet to confirm pricing for either phone, but that news should come out in the coming weeks. Thankfully however they have confirmed a launch date. Pre-orders start next week on February 23rd at 8am (EST) with availability starting on March 11th. If you want to learn more about the device, check out the full press release below.
