Arguably one of the biggest features of Windows 10 Mobile is Continuum. The ability to have a desktop experience powered by nothing more than a smartphone is a futuristic idea that actually works pretty well. However Microsoft’s official way of doing this is through the Display Dock, which costs about $99. However if you still want to try it out without shelling out a Benjamin to do so, you can pick up Choetech’s USB C HDMI adapter.
This adapter offers an HDMI port, one USB 3.0 port, and one USB C port all within a metal body. The compact adapter is portable and provides the same basic experience as Microsoft’s official option. While it ditches a few USB ports, it does still offer charging through the USB C port, something that I’m glad to see as many other options lack this. The USB 3.0 port also allows for connecting a USB keyboard/mouse, a flash drive, or even a USB hub to do both at once and more!
I tested this adapter out with the Lumia 950 and found that performance using it with my Dell montior was identical to that of the Display Dock. I simply plugged everything in, the phone recognized it, and away we went.
At just about $41, this is a great option to use Continuum on your Windows 10 smartphone without dropping a ton of cash to do so. It works well and for the price, you can’t go wrong. If you’re interested in picking one up, check out the link down below.
Update: Choetech contacted us following this post to notify us that in their tests they did have some issues with the 950. Tests have been hit or miss, however your results may vary from our own or theirs. However worth noting is that no issues have been found with products such as the 12″ Macbook or the Chromebook Pixel 2.
