Ever since the Galaxy S4, AT&T has housed an exclusive variant of Samsung’s flagship smartphone designed for outdoor activity. By adding features like increased shock protection, extra physical buttons, and water resistance, these phones have been great, even though they aren’t exactly accessible to everyone thanks to the specific carrier restriction. Last year’s Galaxy S6 Active was crowned the best of the series, but it seems it’s also not the last. Rumors have been floating around regarding a possible Galaxy S7 Active, and now that has seemingly been confirmed.
Thanks to an app listing by Samsung themselves on the Google Play Store, we have what is essentially a confirmation that the S7 Active exists, even though it has yet to be announced. The Samsung Level app, an app which adds extra controls to Samsung’s Level lineup of premium headphones, shows a compatibility list within its app listing which now shows the S7 Active as of the recent 4.6.1 update.
Of course with the standard S7 and S7 Edge featuring water/dust resistance out of the box, it’s unclear what the Galaxy S7 Active would add on top of that aside from a more rugged design. Either way, with this confirmation and leaks from both Evan Blass (@evleaks) and SamMobile further proving that the device is real, we can’t be too far off from the official unveiling. The S6 Active was originally announced in early June, so it’s possible that the launch could land around the same time this year.
