There are three kinds of Chromebooks, the baseline, ultra-cheap model, the mid-range, affordable model, and the top of the line, kill your bank account model. There are plenty of the first two options, but we’ve only seen one top of the line model, the Chromebook Pixel. However now, it seems we have another, the HP Chromebook 13.
This 13.3″ Chromebook packs top of the line specifications including a QHD display, 16GB of RAM, and even two USB C ports. The processor falls a bit behind the Pixel with the Core M series rather than the Core i series. For the top end model the HP Chromebook 13 packs a Core M7 processor with Pentium, m3, m5, and m7 variants coming. RAM maxes out at 16GB, but there will also be variants available with 4GB and 8GB as well. The display is also available in a FHD variant.
From the initial images, it appears that this device could pack a metal build, but that remains to be seen at this point. What we do know on the other hand is that this machine has a backlit keyboard, which is great to see as very few Chromebooks pack the feature.
Pricing on the HP Chromebook 13 is unknown, but the higher end models will undoubtedly be pricey. The mid-range models on the other hand might end up in an affordable price range. We also don’t know when this device will be coming to market, but needless to say, I’m pretty excited.
