Blackberry has today officially announced that they will begin pushing Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the Blackberry Priv starting this week. The update comes along with an upgrade to Android Marshmallow along with security enhancements, improved performance and features, and the upcoming May Android Security Patch.
The update adds the usual Marshmallow goodies such as Google Now on Tap, Doze, and app permissions. Specific to the Priv however is swipe typing for the physical keyboard (!), 200 added emoji, and improved cursor control which allows for more accurate movement on screen. Blackberry Hub also gets further integration with more services including Slack, Instagram, and Skype. Slow-motion video has also been added to the camera and the device will support adoptable storage with the microSD card slot. DTEK has also been updated with better control of what apps on your device can and cannot see.
The update is rolling out to the unlocked Blackberry Priv later this week with the rollout moving to carrier variants starting May 3rd.
We have a sweet treat for PRIV users: Android 6.0 Marshmallow (M) is now available on ShopBlackBerry.com and is coming to all major carriers offering PRIV starting May 3. You’ll be able to update to the latest version of Android, completely patched to include our coming May 2016 update, simply by downloading the software update on your PRIV.
