Google Keyboard Gets Massive Update With One-Handed Mode, Adjustable Height, And More

Google Keyboard is my keyboard of choice on Android, providing a simple, reliable, and easy to use keyboard which I absolutely love. As good as it is, it’s certainly falling way behind when it comes to features. Today however Google tries to fill the gap just a bit, updating the app to v5.0 with some major new features.

Within this update you’ll find a few huge additions as well as a handful of minor tweaks. Likely the biggest change is the addition of a one-handed mode which pushes all the keys on the keyboard to either side of the display to make it easier to type with just one hand. Along with that, users can now adjust the height of the entire keyboard to suit their own preferences.

This update also includes a new option to use the keyboard as a cursor by long-pressing the space bar and dragging from side to side. The UI also has a new option with bordered keys and an easily accessible numerical keypad and quicker access to emoji.

This update is currently rolling out via Google Play, but if you’re feeling impatient it’s also available via APKMirror for sideloading.
