The ASUS ZenFone 2 was an extremely popular mid-range smartphone option in 2015 and as 2016 flies by (seriously, how is it May already?!), we’re fast approaching the ZenFone 3. The company’s CEO Jon Shen previously mentioned that they devices would launch in June, and that’s coming up quick. So of course we’re starting to learn more and more about the upcoming devices. The design was previously leaked out and now we’re hearing that they will be powered by Qualcomm chipsets.
Last year’s ZenFone 2 family was powered by Intel chipsets and since then Intel has scrapped their mobile chipset lines, so it would make sense for ASUS to make this move. MediaTek chipsets will apparently also be powering some units, but about 90% will be Qualcomm powered. The specific units to be used remains to be seen, so we’ll just have to stay tuned as rumor has it that ASUS will be announcing the ZenFone 3 lineup on May 30th.
