Two Years After Their Last Release, Samsung Finally Confirms They Won’t Return To Android Wear

Back when Android Wear launched, we were surprised to learn that Samsung would be releasing a device with the new OS, the Samsung Gear Live. The watch never really did particularly well, but it showed what a Samsung device with Android Wear could be like.

Since then we haven’t seen another Wear-powered Samsung smartwatch. In the past two years we’ve seen a number of Tizen powered releases, including the spectacular Gear S2, but nothing with Wear. Now it has finally been confirmed, Samsung has no plans to release another smartwatch powered by Android Wear.

Without Samsung in the mix, Google still has strong partnerships with LG, Huawei, and Motorola as well as having options on the market from the likes of Casio, Fossil, and Tag Huer. With the recent announcement of Android Wear 2.0, the future looks bright for the platform, with Samsung or without. That said, it would have been really nice to see that rotating bezel make an appearance on a Wear device…
