2 min read

7 months after the phone’s initial release Huawei has finally released Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Honor 5X. This long awaited update has been rolling out to certain regions for the past few weeks but today it has kicked off its rollout in the United States.

Starting today, we are pleased to begin rolling out the highly anticipated Marshmallow update, working hand-in-hand to give you a smoother, smarter and a more intuitive Honor 5X experience. As part of this update, Honor 5X will also be receiving EMUI 4.0.

Along with an upgrade to the latest Android version (for now), this update brings along EMUI 4.0, a major update to Huawei’s Android skin. Just like most devices the 5X will recieve features such as Doze, Google Now on Tap, App Permissions and more, but it’ll also get a handful of EMUI specific features which are listed below.

  • Motion Control:An easier way to access your phone. When your screen is on standby, touch the screen in various motions to initiate different functions.
  • Navigation Bar: Personalize your navigation experience by customizing the order of icons in your navigation bar.  You also have the option to add a notification panel icon.
  • Drag Actions: With so much information on your phone, shortcuts are the key to help you get things done. Drag actions make it easy for you to view and hide the important things. Drag top down on left side to show notifications. When you drag top down on the right side, you’ll see your shortcuts.
  • One-Hand Mode: The One-Hand Mode alters the UI to make using your device with a single hand much easier. Simply swipe left or right at the button of the screen to use the phone with your left or right hand only.

The update should be hitting user’s devices over the coming days but if you’re feeling eager you can head into the Settings menu and look for the “updater” section to check for the update manually.
