Smartphones continue to get less and less expensive, but sometimes it’s just amazing how cheap they can be. Phones like the Nexus 6P at $500 is a great deal. At the same time other devices like the Honor 5X are fantastic deals at $199, however once you go below that price point things can get shaky. Today however ZTE has set the bar a bit lower with the new ZMax Pro.
This new 6″ behemoth packs a 1080p display, an octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a massive 3,400 mAh power bank. On the rear you’ll also find a 13MP camera with a 5MP shooter up front. Not bad right?
Things get even better when you look at the details even closer. For charging you’ll have a USB C port and around back is a fingerprint sensor. Software-wise we’re also looking at a stock-ish experience on Marshmallow.
All of that for just $99! Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? Looking at the details, we can see a few areas where ZTE cut costs. One would be the display. While it’s fantastic to see a 1080p panel on a device this cheap, it is a TFT panel which tends not to have good viewing angles or colors. Further the USB C port only uses the USB 2.0 standard and the entire device is made from plastic. Seeing as that is the case, the ZMax Pro still looks like a fantastic deal.
Pre-orders for the device kick off tomorrow, exclusively through MetroPCS. Shipping kicks off on August 1st. It’s unclear if the device will also be sold unlocked or on other carriers at this time.
