Fast charging is not a convenience at this point, for most users it’s nearly a necessity. Being able to charge one’s phone in just a matter of a couple hours versus a few can make a big difference in day to day life, and as more phones release, it just seems to get faster and faster.
With the release of the OnePlus 3, OnePlus also introduced a new charging method with Dash Charge. This new charging option is exclusive to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus has made claims since day one that it’s faster than any other fast charging option out today. But just how much faster is it?
In a new video OnePlus has put the OnePlus 3 with Dash Charge up against the Galaxy S7 with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. Both phones use 3,000mAh batteries, so it’s a pretty fair comparison. In the video we first see the results after 30 minutes with the OnePlus 3 charging up to about 64% and the S7 getting up to 50%. In the second test however we see the OnePlus 3 take a commanding lead because the displays on each phone are left on.
Why the big difference? The answer comes down to heat. While Samsung’s phone will take the brunt of the heat in this test, the OnePlus 3 will remain cool since the heat is managed within the cable rather than the phone.
