Tantrum Mandalorian iPhone 6/6s Case Review

With all the different iPhone cases that are available today, it’s difficult to stand out. You want something that is unique, but you also want something that will protect your iPhone. After all, that’s why we get the case in the first place — to protect the iPhone.

Many companies take this as a trade-off. You can have personality, but little protection. Or, you can have great protection and almost no personality. Tantrum, a company based out of Texas, looks to give you the best of both worlds with their cases. They offer a unique way to protect your iPhone and allow you to show your personality (as long as your personality involves Star Wars).

The Tantrum iPhone case. Made from 6061 aircraft grade aluminum, these cases are a notch above what others have been offering. Housed within the exoskeleton case is a TPU liner that gives an extra layer of protection for those times when your phone falls to the ground. The whole thing is kept together with twelve screws, just to make sure the case won’t pop off when you drop it.

The styling of the cases is the same, but the designs are what truly set these apart from any other phone case. In the manufacturing process, these cases are laser engraved with distinct designs, all involving Star Wars. Being a fan of Boba Fett, I went with the Mandalorian Case. The other designs are BB-8 Schematics, Millennium Falcon Schematics, the Rebel Alliance Emblem, and the Stormtrooper.

While testing this case I found four things that were to its detriment. First, it takes a long time to get the case apart. Even though they were thoughtful enough to include an Allen wrench, unscrewing twelve screws is time consuming. Second, the phone is kind of loose in the case. While it fits in the TPU liner nicely, it doesn’t have a tight fit in the case. Third, it doubles the weight and thickness of the phone. Now, this is understandable since the materials to make the case are so robust. Lastly, it only fits the iPhone 6/6s.

Now, I will be honest and say that this is not the most affordable case. Coming in at $199, it is one of the most expensive cases that I’ve ever seen. But, since you’ll be hard pressed to find a more impressive Star Wars case, it’s somewhat understandable.

The question that everyone asks, especially about something this much, is it worth it? Considering that this case was designed for a teenager who was constantly buying run of the mill cases and still breaking their phone, I would say yes. The iPhone is not a cheap phone. This can be viewed as more of an investment, than a single purchase. This is a case that is made here in the United States, from quality material.

All in all, it’s a good case for the iPhone. The case truly feels as premium as the iPhone. Even though it has a high price point, it earns a spot as a piece of art. The meticulous design of this case shows a dedication to the true spirit of Star Wars.

The case is on sale for $149 right now, and you can pick it up at the link below. Also be sure to check out Tantrum’s website for all their other cases!
