Secur SP-6000 Solar Charger Review

The primary problem that plagues all mobile users is the quest to find a power outlet. This is especially true when we’re out and about. Now, to help avoid the hunt, you can carry a power bank with you. But even those run out. Then, you’re back on the prowl for a power outlet. It always seems like an uphill battle. That problem is exactly what Secur set out to solve with their solar charger.

Secur Products is a company that is dedicated to constant product development for emergency preparedness, outdoor sports, portable power solutions and alternative energy. They have developed a way to almost eliminate the need for a power outlet with the Secur SP-6000 Solar Charger. It is equipped with two, six watt solar panels, a 10,000mAh battery, dual 2.4A USB ports, and a waterproof zipper pouch to keep your mobile device dry.

Secur did a great job with the design of the SP-6000. You can tell they focused on portability as it can be folded down to about six inches wide and ten inches tall. When opened, it is around sixteen inches wide with the same height. Each SP-6000 is constructed using a durable and soft canvas material. It also has an easel leg built into it.

Charging the power bank is simple. Stand it up using the easel leg, unfold the panels, and use the drawstring to adjust the angle. It takes about 4-6 hours to charge when in direct sunlight. Of course, in cloudier weather it takes longer. One downside is that the power bank can only be charged by the solar panels. There is no other way to charge the power bank.

This is the best of both worlds when it comes to charging solutions. Whenever the power bank starts to deplete, open it up and leave it in the sun for a while. And while you can find larger power banks for less than the SP-6000 (it’s $125 from Secur’s site) you still have the issue of finding an outlet. In my opinion, the very fact that this is an all-in-one solution makes it worth the price.

Overall, the SP-6000 is a great asset to have. Especially if you need to not only keep your phone alive, but also any other rechargeable equipment you have. The high-efficiency, solar-charging capability and the built-in 10,000 mAh power bank is a one-two punch for everything from a trip to a theme park, to your emergency preparedness checklist.
