Lenovo hasn’t shied away from manufacturing powerful gaming PCs in the past. The launch of a dedicated sub-brand for Lenovo gaming PCs — Lenovo Legion — shows that they’re definitely planning to bring more in the future. One of those additions is the newly announced Lenovo Legion Y520 gaming laptop.
First, let’s take a quick look at some of the specs:
- Intel Core i7 Processor
- Up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 TI
- Up to 16 GB DDR4 RAM
- Up to 512 GB PCIe SSD or 2 TB SATA HDD
- 3 Cell 45 WHr Li-Po Battery (providing 4 hours of battery life)
- 15.6” or 16.9” FHD (1920 x 1080) display
The Legion Y520 (and its Legion Y720 sibling) was designed to provide gamers, both mainstream and enthusiasts, an immersive experience. Besides the above-listed specs, the Legion Y520 is VR-ready straight out of the box. It also includes two 2W Harman speakers with Dolby Audio to make sure that whether you have a VR headset on or not, your gaming experience has crisp, customized, immersive audio. It comes with an optional red backlit keyboard and is fairly light for the specs provided — starting at about 5.3 pounds. Combined with its 25.8mm thin body, the lightweight build makes this a powerful, yet portable gaming laptop.
When it comes to ports, the Legion Y520 doesn’t leave you (or dongles) hanging. Despite the thin frame and power inside, you still have an HDMI port, an ethernet port, one USB 2.0 port, as well as two USB 3.0 ports and a USB-C port. Did we mention the 4-in-1 card reader?
The best thing about this laptop, however, may be the price. Lenovo does offer heavier models with a bit more power, they can break the bank for some folks. The Lenovo Y900, for example, starts at a whopping $2,499. The Legion Y520 starts at $899.99 and will be available beginning in February 2017. Its up-to-date specs, portability, and price point might make this laptop your next gaming laptop.
