For the past two years, the Logitech MX Master has been the mouse of choice for video editors, photographers, or just anyone who spends considerable time in front of a computer. But in the technology world, two years is a long time. So, it begs the question: is the MX Master still worth buying in 2017?
The MX Master is a beast of a mouse. The primary attraction is that it is extremely ergonomic, for any hand size. I have large hands, and using this mouse all day long is quite comfortable. The buttons are all well positioned — save the back and forward buttons, which are too far back to easily reach.
But not only are the buttons well built and tactile, they are fully customizable. You can choose the action of the gesture button, thumb wheel, back and forward buttons, manual shift button, and scroll wheel button. You can even take it a step further and customize their actions on an app by app basis. For example, I have the thumb wheel set to volume control in every app except my video editing app, Final Cut Pro X. There, it’s set to the default action of horizontal scrolling.

On the software side, it is just as well done as the mouse itself. Since its release, many software and connection bugs have been worked out — so there’s an overall better user experience.
