Carriers are offering free calls and data for those affected by Irma

Hurricane Irma is a storm of historic proportions that will cause damage to the majority of the state of Florida and beyond. During such a weather emergency communication is more important than ever. Thanks to the forward thinking and kindness of many of the mobile carriers in the US you won’t have to worry about fees or overages. Remember in a time of crisis like this texting is preferred over calling because lines are usually clogged with emergency calls and texts are more likely to get through.


Starting September 6th to the 10th AT&T is automatically issuing credits and waiving fees in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This will provide AT&T wireless customers with unlimited talk, text, and data as well as provide AT&T prepaid customers with unlimited talk and texts. Credits are also being automatically provided for calls made from the U.S. to the British Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos, and U.S. Virgin Islands. A similar offer is available for the Bahamas but only valid from September 8th through the 10th. Landline customers in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands can also make free calls to the 50 domestic states between September 6th through the 10th 2017.

Calls to Puerto Rico are already included in Cricket Wireless plans and free calls to the Dominican Republic and Haiti begin on September 7th and run through the 10th 2017.

For Florida residents in Irma’s path, AT&T is automatically issuing fees and credits for unlimited wireless customers to give them unlimited data, talk, and texts running from September 8th to the 17th. AT&T PREPAID customers will also get unlimited talk and texts during this same time period while extending payment dates until September 17th.


Through September 9th, 2017 Sprint will waive call, text, and data overage fees for its Sprint, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile customers in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. During this same time period, Sprint is also waiving all international call and text overage fees for U.S. customers contacting Anguilla, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Turks and Caicos, and British Virgin Islands.

Between September 8th and the 15th Sprint is waiving all text, call, and data overage fees for all Sprint, BoostMobile and Virgin Mobile customers in Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. International call and texting overage fees are also being waived between the U.S. and the Bahamas as well as roaming voice and text overage charges for Sprint customers in the Bahamas through September 15th, 2017. Customers on Unlimited plans will continue to enjoy their unlimited data, call and text benefits.


Through September 8th T-Mobile and MetroPCS customers in Puerto Rico from area codes 787 and 939 can call anywhere in the U.S. for free. While MetroPCS and T-Mobile customers not on T-Mobile ONE will receive unlimited data. T-Mobile is also providing customers free calls and texts from the U.S. to Bahamas and Turks and Caicos, and waiving all roaming fees in the same area until September 15th, 2017.

T-Mobile customers in Florida not on T-Mobile ONE and MetroPCS customers will receive free calling, texting, and unlimited data in the following area codes 239, 305, 321, 352, 386, 407, 561, 689, 727, 754, 772, 786, 813, 850, 863, 904, 941, and 954 until September 15th, 2017.


From September 6th through the 10th 2017 Verizon is providing their wireline customers with free calls from the U.S to Anguilla, The British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Turks and Caicos, and the Bahamas. During the same time period, Verizon wireless customers on their postpaid plans can make free calls and texts from the U.S. to Anguilla, The British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Turks and Caicos, and the Bahamas.

Starting September 9th and running through the 11th Verizon is offering postpaid wireless customers in Florida call, text, and data relief. During this time you might receive data overage charges but they will be covered on your next bill and ignore any overage warnings you receive. Verizon prepaid customers will also receive an extra 3GB of data.
