Pandora now offers a family plan to match Spotify, Google Play, and iTunes Music

Pandora is one of the original music streaming services, but newcomers like Spotify have made leaps in features over the older company. Pandora recently updated their paid package to a Premium offering that allowed a feature more in line with its contenders like full albums, unlimited skips, and so on. Now, Pandora has quietly started an additional upgrade to Premium to allow for a family plan.

Much like the offerings for Spotify, iTunes, and Google Play Music, this new payment tier get’s multiple members of your family covered under the same benefits.

Pandora Premium Family – which offers all of the features of Pandora Premium to up to six unique Pandora accounts simultaneously – is $14.99 USD monthly or $164.89 annually. Taxes may also apply depending on local tax laws in your area.

Each of your Premium Family members will get full access to Pandora Premium features, but they’ll have their own account. (In other words, you won’t have to share your music unless you want to.) All six people on the family plan subscription get the following benefits:

  • Listen to what you want, when you want
  • Create radio stations or customize playlists
  • Download music for offline listening, skip or replay songs whenever
  • Listen to higher quality audio, uninterrupted by ads

You’ll also get exclusive access to “Our Soundtrack,” a regularly-updated playlist created just for your family that combines each person’s unique musical tastes.

It is worth a mention that if you’re signed up for payments through iTunes you’ll have to cancel in order to upgrade to the family plan. If that doesn’t apply and you have a standard payment option, you can move the Pandora Family right away through the app or website.

This move really just brings them closer to the competition, but I am intrigued by the new structure with the confusion surrounding Google Play Music. Plus, the “Our Soundtrack” playlists could be fun to see what kind of mashup your family’s taste would create. What about you? Does the addition of full-family coverage increase the likelihood of moving to Pandora?
