What’s new in tvOS from WWDC18

The Apple TV is a great staple of Apple’s suite of products for media consumption. Today they’ve announced some minor, but nice updates to the TV platform.

Dolby Atmos

The Apple TV 4K just got a pretty serious upgrade: support for Dolby Atmos! It’s the only streaming player to be Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision certified. This update allows you to experience Dolby Atmos sound with a setup as simple as your Apple TV 4K and an Atmos-enabled soundbar.

TV Providers

As TV shifts away from traditional cable methods, providers are seeing the need for internet-based delivery. US customers will soon be able to use their Charter Spectrum subscription through their Apple TV, with the power of Siri at the ready.

Aerials

Aerials is the feature that automatically displays footage of beautiful places on (or of) earth. They’ve added an update that displays what you’re looking at on the screen, which has been a long-requested feature. They’ve even added a new Aerial, which is footage of earth from the International Space Station.
